3 ways to avoid AI slop content
How to scale content with AI without losing your brand voice, quality, or search visibility
Is management pushing you to use AI to produce content faster? And are you worried this will weaken your brand voice? You’re not alone.
Management sees AI as a way to cut costs. Your job is to prevent the brand from becoming generic and protect your SEO and GEO rankings.
Here are my 3 lessons from the past 3 years of working with AI in marketing and content.
1. Use humans first. AI second.
Think by hand with pen on paper. Then, you create the first messy draft yourself. Then use AI to improve quality and speed.
→ The most important step is configuring AI properly writing and reviewing.
For example, my client AI configuration includes 15 to 20 documents: from brand identity, tone of voice, lexicon, copy structure, to review instructions for AI feedback. This input makes content repeatable and consistent.
→ Creating great content once is easy. Scaling that quality is the real challenge.
2. Read it out loud
Ask yourself: would I say this to someone in real life? If not, it’s probably slop.
→ Read it out loud. If you stumble or run out of breath, the text is too complicated. Don’t use 50 words where 10 will do.
That’s why I use a review agent to check if the text stays at B1–B2 reading level. It analyzes the copy and gives brutally honest feedback. If the text reaches C1 level, it needs rewriting.
Another review agent checks scanability. Even if we hope our readers will read everything, most won’t.
→ People don’t read. They scan for information.
3. Would you read it yourself?
Would you click and read this yourself? The honest answer is usually no.
→ If you don’t care about it, your audience won’t either.
Great content does one of three things: inspire, educate, or entertain.
It always answers two questions: ‘what’s in it for me’ and ‘why should I care?’
Marketers often forget this because they focus too much on their own product and brand.Step into your reader’s shoes. Does your content inspire curiosity or interest? If not, don’t publish it.
→ That’s why thinking first matters. You define the 'why it matters' before you ask AI to help write.
The bottom line
Avoiding AI slop is simple. But it requires effort. AI is not a shortcut.
Craftsmanship and experience still matter more than prompts or hacks. And human thinking still beats fully automated writing.
